FAQs

  • Why home visits?

Home visits take the stress out of going to the vets for you and your pet. Maybe your cat hates the journey in the car or on the bus or maybe your dog doesn’t like being in close proximity to others. If this is stressful for you, often your pet can pick up on this causing them to be more anxious. A vet coming to you negates a lot of these feelings for you and your pet.

Home visits are often more convenient for you too! Rather than wait for a long time in a waiting room, you can get on with your business at home. We give you a time for your appointment and are usually quite punctual!

We endeavour to be there within a half an hour window of your allotted appointment time but things like Edinburgh traffic can be very variable and if we are going to be delayed we will let you know.

Our service is also great for anyone who does not have transport or finds it difficult to get out of the house e.g. people with mobility issues or new babies!

  • How long is a visit?

A visit generally lasts 30-40 minutes but may be shorter on longer depending on what we need to do. It takes as long as it takes!

  • What happens if my pet needs an operation?

We have agreements with a network of local practices who are happy to see your pet should they require any surgery, x-rays or investigations that can’t be carried out in the home. We will give them all the information required and they will hand your pet’s care back over to us once they are ready to be discharged.

  • How do I pay?

We respectfully ask for payment at the time of consultation. Martha and Mhairi carry mobile card readers so the easiest way to settle a bill is by debit or credit card. We can also accept cheques and cash.

  • What do I do in an emergency?

    Give us a ring! 0131 210 0055

If your emergency happens out of hours in the evening or at the weekend then we have e-vets, based at Braids vet hospital. They are essentially A & E for pets, staffed when other practices are closed to make sure your pet is provided for 24/7. They can be contacted on 0131 662 1689.

  • What happens if there are no appointments available?

As there are only two of us covering the whole of Edinburgh, there may be times when there is not a vet available to visit. If the visit request is not urgent then we will book you in for the next available appointment.

If the problem is deemed to be an emergency then we can direct you to one of our the local practices that we have an agreement with. Please note they are not mobile vets and you will have to take your pet to the clinic in these situations.

  • What areas do you cover?

We cover the whole of Edinburgh and also immediate surrounding areas. Postcodes EH1 and up to EH26 are covered. We will occasionally cover a little further, for example one-off appoontments for multiple animals for boosters or euthanasia but this is by arrangement only and incurs a surcharge of £30 on top of normal prices. As we grow hopefully we can increase the areas we cover!

  • How do I order medicines?

You can fill out the repeat prescription form online or drop us an email at info@vetkind.co.uk. Please give us at least 48hrs notice as we may need to order items in. Once we have the item we will deliver or post your prescription to you for your convenience.

We do require to examine your pet at regular intervals to be able to prescribe medications to your pet. This is a professional requirement and the frequency of check ups will depend on the condition and medications required.
