As our pets age, we sometimes put conditions such as osteoarthritis and kidney problems down to ‘old age’. Cats especially are very good at hiding signs of discomfort and will often just get on with things. We can examine your pet in the comfort of your home to look for signs of geriatric disease.
If you notice a reduction in activity in an older pet, a reluctance to exercise, an increase in drinking or urinating, or a change in appetite then it is worth having a pet MOT! This may include performing blood and urine tests to screen for diseases of old age.
We recommend examining all cats over 11 years old twice a year, including  a simple urine test every year. Once they reach 13 then we also recommend a yearly blood sample and blood pressure measurement. This is to pick up on geriatric diseases early, which means we can ensure improved management and quality of life.
There are now many more treatments and diets available to support our pets in their golden years, and if properly managed they can live happily with a good quality of life for many years!
If your pet suffers from a chronic condition, a home-visit service means that it can be easily managed in the home with repeat visits, tests and medications being easily organised for you and your pet.
Using Vetkind means that your pet will get to know their vet well, and he or she won’t have to deal with the stress of transport and regular visits to a clinic.
