Whether you are getting a new puppy or kitten, or need an annual booster, we can advise on which vaccination protocol is appropriate for your pet. This also gives us a chance to examine your pet and answer any questions or niggles you may have regarding your pet’s health.
Cats
We recommend vaccinations for cats against cat flu, enteritis and calicivirus. We also add feline leukaemia virus for outdoor cats or those with exposure to many other cats. For most young cats and those going into catteries we generally recommend yearly vaccinations. As cats get older or if they have a low risk lifestyle then we may recommend vaccination less frequently. However, we strongly recommend a full health check on all cats at least once a year, and more frequently in our older patients.
Dogs
We recommend vaccination against the core diseases of canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and leptospirosis. These diseases can be devastating but are preventable through vaccination. Once a dog has a first-year booster, we recommend a leptospirosis vaccination every year and a full DHPL vaccine every 3 years. We also recommend dogs get an annual kennel cough vaccination. Kennel cough is generally not life threatening but is very contagious and unpleasant if your dog catches it.
Together we can work out the most sensible vaccination protocol for your pet depending on his or her age and lifestyle.
